A frail craft upon the waters this morning - a lone kayaker moving rapidly through the water this morning about seven thirty am

The sky has a look of molten gold at the horizon this morning

First snow of the season and an early start to the season as well. I heard geese in the cove last night but didn't see any until midmorning when I saw a thin gray line swimming out of the cove in a southerly direction. I both saw and heard the ducks when I went up for the paper at seven a.m. It's now around four p.m. and the water is a very light silver gray, rippling and very cold looking.

I looked out my window and what did I see
but a big pumpkin orange harvest moon
looking in at me

Two views of kayakers from my window - on Saturday morning two kayakers going by on water as calm and smooth as satin and on Sunday morning two kayakers going by on water as wavy as watered silk

The dew on the grass was so cold this morning it curled my bare toes as I stepped out for the paper. The sun rose as shimmering orange red orb.

Tuesday, August 21, 2018

A small flock of geese flew over in a westerly direction this morning as we walked up the lane for the paper. And coming around Back Cove before lunch time I spotted a snowy egret. I'm still thrilled remembering the quartet of snowy egrets I spotted there last week.

The shrill cries of the gulls - at the foot of the road a lobster boat heading out to sea - truly a coastal Maine morning

Friday, June 15, 2018

When I looked out the window the other morning I saw what I thought was a wounded crow until I realized he was dusting himself in the big old ant hill in the path to the sea. He was soon joined by another and they had a fabulous time cleaning themselves in the dust.

This is what a perfect day at the end of May looks like: the birds are singing, the lilacs are blooming, the honeysuckle is blooming, the only surviving birdhouse is rented, there are a myriad of candles on the horse chestnut and the crabapple tree is just starting to lose its blossums. Alas, the magnolia has gone by. Nature is at her most benign and beautiful.

Two frogs in the pond this afternoon - so happy to see them

Monday, May 7, 2018

An unusual sunrise this morning, pale peach above with a smokey blue at the horizon. The peach morphed into a vanilla cream above the dense smokey blue.

Saturday, April 28, 2018

The sights and sounds of spring as we walked up for the paper this morning; the forsythia budding along the path and the sound of a motor boat on the bay - no sight of the boat itself as the fog was in
As I walked up the path for the paper I couldn't help but contrast the warmth of the sunshine and the bird song with the cold grey silence of the winter.

A perfect early weekend morning spent chatting in the sunshine with my neighbor while our dogs romp.

Friday, April 20, 2018

The tide is out and the water is a gray blue and very sparkly. Lots of traffic on the path to the beach, both foot and paw, this morning.

Monday, March 19, 2018

The water fowl are all lined up along the stream this morning eager to be drinking the runoff from the spring which doesn't freeze.

Sunday, March 11, 2018

The sunrise gave the water an amazing violet hue this morning, beautiful and unusual. The snow is still crusty. Every footfall creates a great crunchy sound.

Thursday, March 8, 2018

A photographer's dream out there. Standing under the trees is like being in a snow cave. The branches almost reach the ground they are so laden with snow. I'm very proud of the dog and I as we are the first to leave tracks on the right of way this storm. And the greatest blessing of all is that there was no power cut.

Sunday, February 25, 2018

A salmon and steel blue sunise has faded to pale lilac. The tide is high and the wind is rippling the water in the cove.

It's now 10 o'clock and the first snowflakes are falling just as the weathermen predicted. There is enough wind to cause the buoy bell on the porch to ring intermittently.

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

No snow or ice on the paper road that goes by the front door - hooray! But the snow is predicted again this weekend. Still it is so pleasant to walk up and down and not have to worry about slipping and sliding
The islands have disappeared behind a curtain of fog.

A bright sunny day with dogs and children down at the shore and melting snow all around
